The BA American Studies introduces students to US American culture, literature, history, society, and politics, as well as to the varied academic skills needed to critically engage the many dimensions of the United States and its roles in the world. Prospective students interested in our BA can find information on how to apply to the program on this page.

Applying to the BA in American Studies

Admission to the BA in American Studies is restricted by a local “numerus clausus” (“ncu”), which is based on the grade point average of your school-leaving certificate.

  • Applications by domestic applicants—i.e., applicants with a German Abitur—are handled by the university’s Studierendensekretariat.
  • Applications by international applicants are handled by the university’s International Center.

Please consult their webpages for details on the admission process, including the deadlines for your application. Generally, since the admissions process is handled centrally by Leipzig University, ASL faculty usually cannot help you with details about the required documents or specific deadlines.

Additionally, please also take a look at frequently asked questions about the BA admissions process.
