The PhD programme of the Research Training Group "Interaction of Grammatical Building Blocks" is organized according to a study programme and study regulations, which we present here.

Compulsory Foundation Courses

The course IGRA01 is offered in the summer semester and conveys the essential concepts of sequential interaction of grammatical building blocks in phonology, morphology and syntax. It will deal with both excitatory and inhibitory interactions.

The course IGRA02 is offered in the winter semester and conveys central concepts of simultaneous interactions of grammatical building blocks in phonology, morphology and syntax. Various approaches, such as Optimal Theory, declarative theories, as well as the possible influence of extra-grammatical factors such as the role of frequency, may be the addressed.

The course IGRA03 is offered every two years (regularly in the winter semester). The course conveys knowledge of formal semantics and/or mathematical foundations of linguistics.

The course IGRA04 is offered every two years. This course conveys methodological knowledge, e. g. on conducting and evaluating experiments, on statistical methods, and/or on the design and development of databases.

The course IGRA05 is offered every summer semester. This course conveys important skills in writing abstracts for conferences, presenting at conferences (oral presentations as well as posters) and using relevant software in linguistics.

Optional Advanced Courses

The course IGRA06 deals with current research questions in phonology. There is an offering of at least one to two respective seminars every semester that can be alternatively attended.

The course IGRA07 deals with current research questions in morphology. There is an offering of at least one to two respective seminars every semester that can be alternatively attended.

The course IGRA08 deals with current research questions in syntax. There is an offering of at least one to two respective seminars every semester that can be alternatively attended.

The  Burgmann-Fellow Course takes place every July (usually approximately three meetings per week). Here, internationally renowned scientists present their current research. The focus changes from year to year among phonology, morphology and syntax respectively.
