One, An den Grenzen der Invektivität, is dedicated to dynamics of disparagement in European and North American cultures past as well as present. More specifically, the book focuses on the precarious boundaries of invective or hate speech, exploring its intersections with phenomena of humor, of critique, and of physical violence. The book is available open access and concludes the interdisciplinary project on cultures of disparagement in which Prof. Kanzler served as a Principle Investigator.
The other publication comes out of Prof. Kanzler's longstanding interest in the genre of science fiction, and in Star Trek in particular. Star Trek: Gestern – Heute – Morgen explores the most recent iterations of the franchise and the notable ways in which they address Star Trek's own history as a storyworld almost 60 years in the making. The book compiles a set of case studies which, from different disciplinary perspectives, ask how self-historicization and a future-oriented imaginary have come together in Star Trek series since Discovery (2017). The ebook can be accessed via many university libraries.
