Held in English, free of charge, and open to the public, the event attracted a diverse audience from Leipzig University and the city’s vibrant literary scene. In conversation with Senthuran Varatharajah, Phillip B. Williams spoke about writing as an act of care—care for the words we choose, the histories they carry, and the people they touch. In his work, Williams connects ancestry and freedom, while building new paths on old grounds.
We would like to give thanks to the DAAD, Holtzbrinck Berlin, and EDIT Magazine, as well as to all attendees who enriched the event with their thought-provoking ideas, discussions, and contributions.
The Picador Professorship is a joint project of Leipzig University, American Studies Leipzig, the DAAD, and Holtzbrinck Berlin. It brings contemporary US authors to Leipzig to teach creative writing and engage with the local cultural scene.
