This page will provide the key information for first semester students (with a focus on students of the MA Linguistics).
Module recommendations for first semester students
Master
We recommend the foundational modules Semantics (04-046-2001) and Phonology, Morphology, Syntax (04-046-2002) and the advanced module Local Syntax (04-046-2015). You may alternatively enrol for a module offered by another institute (e.g. a Linguistics module in the MA programs of the German/English/Romance/Slavic department). If you prefer the second option, you have to contact the module commissioner ("Modulbeauftragter") of the respective module and ask whether you can be admitted to the module (in terms of required background knowledge and in terms of vacancies). If you are admitted to the module, you have to get the consent of the head of the intitute's examination committee (see form). Note that a direct module registration via Tool is not possible. However, the institutes will provide registration forms; you have to send the registration form (with the signatures of the teachers/lecturers of the module) to the Study Office. If you are interested in the special module Research internship (04-046-2034), you should register for it in a later semester.

Module registration
When you register for a module, you are also automatically registered for the module examination. In order to register for modules of our MA Linguistics, you have to choose TOOL. You are automatically admitted to the modules of our MA Linguistics. After the registration data are migrated from TOOL to AlmaWeb. It is possible to deregister from a module and the associated module examination no later than four weeks before the end of the lecture period, either by independently deregistering (via AlmaWeb) or by notifying the responsible examination office in writing.
Timetable
- Module registration in TOOL:
Wednesday, 2 Oktober 2024, 12pm till Monday, 7 October 2024 5pm - Deregistration via Almaweb: 14 October 2024 till 4 weeks before the end of the lecture period
