Criteria for recognising time spent abroad as part of teacher training (pdf), compiled by Saxony’s State Office for Schools and Education (in German)
Proof of English at B2 level
To be admitted to an English teacher training programme or a BA programme at the Institute of British Studies, you must provide evidence that you are proficient in English to at least B2 level as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This can be demonstrated with an Abitur certificate evidencing English classes from years 7 through 12 (or 13). Alternatively, you can submit a language certificate as evidence of English at B2 level.
The following international standardised English tests are also officially recognised as equivalent to B2 level:
- TOEFL iBT Test of English as a Foreign Language – minimum score of 72
- FCE Cambridge First Certificate in English – grade B or C
- IELTS International English Language Testing System – at least 5,5
- TOEIC Test of English for International Communication
- Listening & Reading – score of at least 785
- Speaking – score of at least 160
- Writing – score of at least 150
- Linguaskill (Cambridge Assessment English) – score of at least 160
- UNIcert II
- CET College English Test in China – CET-6 and CET-SET (Spoken English Test) (you must pass both tests)
A school leaving certificate from a country in which English is spoken as a national language, or a standardised international English-language school leaving certificate (such as the International Baccalaureate, or a High School Diploma from an American international school) also serves as evidence of English proficiency at B2 level.
