Contacts at the institute
Our team will support you in planning your studies and is also responsible for credit transfer. You can contact your advisor via email or during their office hours.
Please use your university account when you send us an email and make sure to include the following information in every enquiry: your name, student number, course of study (BA, MA, or type of teaching degree), current term of study, and the subject matter of your enquiry. Note that it can take us a week or longer to deal with your request.

The Board of Examiners is responsible for:
- Final thesis - changing topic, extensions
- Admission to take a second resit examination
- Resolving grade disputes
- Mitigating circumstances applications
Applications will only be accepted if they are made in writing, either by post or by email (using your studserv email address, stating your course and matriculation number).
The FSR represents the interests of students at the Institute of British Studies, and at the Institute of American Studies. It defends their rights, and is their voice at meetings of official bodies, such as the Board of Examiners.
What we do:
- Weekly office hours to answer questions about studying at the Institute of British Studies, and at the Institute of American Studies, as well as giving advice about studying abroad.
- Opportunity to view exam scripts from previous semesters (during office hours)
- Monthly social for anglophile students, lecturers, and FSR members.
- Reading group, summer party, “Lecturer’s guide to the past”.
Faculty contacts
The Faculty of Philology’s examination managers are your first point of contact for all questions related to examinations, including:
- Registering for examinations, and withdrawing from examinations
- Recording and publishing results on AlmaWeb
- Publishing examination dates, monitoring deadlines
- Handling doctor’s notes, and examination appeals
- Issuing certificates and transcripts of records
- Issuing form 5 for the BAFöG funding application
- Registration and receipt of bachelor’s and master’s theses
- Registering credits after recognition by the Board of Examiners
